- Founded in 1938 by Leon Trotsky and his supporters, it positioned itself in opposition to the Third International and Stalinism. Parties and organizations belonging to it are linked by their commitment to Trotsky’s brand of Marxism, but it has seen numerous disagreements and splits often relating to how Trotsky should be interpreted. It continues to function, but remains small and unsuccessful so far in fomenting revolution.
